The club's annual general meeting took place recently. The chairman, Doug Williams, welcomed everyone. After the apologies, the minutes of the previous AGM having been circulated, and no matters arising, Doug gave his chairman's report. The club has enjoyed a very successful year, with many new members, and several outstanding successes in external competitions. Thanks were given to all the officers of the club and to the members, for contributing to this success. The other officers had also circulated their reports, which everyone had read. The meeting then agreed to some changes to the club constitution, club rules and competition rules. The next piece of business was the election of officers. Sadly, two key members of the committee are standing down, the vice-chairman, Ray Hine, and the honorary secretary, Alan Jones. They will be much missed in these capacities. Ray will continue to serve on the committee, and will assist the programme secretary, Chris Warren. Ray is also the equipment secretary, for members who want to hire club equipment. Alan Jones is resigning from the committee. The club is searching for someone to follow his cheerful and efficient example, as honorary secretary. The officers elected were: chairman - Doug Williams; honorary treasurer - Jill Baxter; internal competition secretary - Dave Marriott; external competition secretary - Roy Peters; programme secretary - Chris Warren; press officer - Roz Oak; vice-chairman and honorary secretary - positions remain empty at present. Committee members elected were: Lynda Perry, John Crane, Harry Gardiner, Dave Cooper. After a brief discussion of photographic techniques, the meeting was closed and members enjoyed refreshments, prepared by 'Mick the Tea'. The annual dinner is tomorrow (Saturday) at Wiseman's Bridge Inn. Last week at St. Florence Village Hall, club members were delighted to welcome Linda Gibbs DPAGB, AV- AFIAP, and Edgar Gibbs DPAGB, AV-AFIAP, to judge the audio visual competition. The entries were of an excellent quality, and members enjoyed the presentations. The first, entitled 'The Other Side of Yellowstone', earned compliments from the judges on the commentary, music and pictures. It told the story of Yellowstone, and how the geysers come to be. It also raised the slightly sinister aspect of a possible explosion building up, and this twist brought the production to its climax. The next was entitled 'Our Environment', and to the music of 'Big Yellow Taxi', showed how our locality could be ruined by too much development. The judges considered this to be generally very good, with the music well matched to the images. More presentations followed, 'Flower Festival', with an introduction of birdsong, and Delibes' music, 'The Flower Duet', accompanying the images, then 'Calm is the Sea', with music from a Male Voice Choir, and pictures of Pembrokeshire beaches. Both drew favourable comments from the judges, and they felt that the photographs in the latter, in particular, were excellent. The next one was Grasstrack, Hodgeston, with panpipe music illustrating the pictures of the cars racing. The judges felt the music could have been more aggressive, but liked the dusty feel of the photographs, and the atmosphere of 'Gunfight at the Okay Corral'. The final presentation was entitled 'Tennis Daydreams', and told the story of a young tennis player, making a trip to Wimbledon, and his dreams of playing on Centre Court. With spoken commentary, as well as music, the judges thought that the scene setting was very good, and the use of animation. It held the interest all through the sequence, and told a story as well. They felt the soundtrack was very well produced, and the whole presentation gave a sense of movement. The results, in reverse order, were: 6. Grasstrack, Hodgeston, Ray Hine; 5. Flower Festival, Doug Williams; 4. Calm is the Sea, Phillippe Kirrcher; 3. Our Environment, Alan Jones; 2. The Other Side of Yellowstone, Roy Peters; 1. Tennis Daydreams, Maureen Meads. After a break for refreshments, Linda and Edgar showed some of their own audio visual shows, and also some from other audio visual colleagues. Everyone enjoyed the evening, and look forward to welcoming Linda and Edgar back next year. The next meeting, on April 24, will be Dr. Toby Driver, 'Historic Landscapes From the Air'. Everyone is welcome at the meetings, and further information is on the website, http://www.tenby-camera-club.co.uk">www.tenby-camera-club.co.uk.
