The Camera Club met on Thursday, at St. Florence Village Hall. This week's talk was by club member, Harry Gardiner, on 'How Photographs Communicate'. Harry gave a very good talk, with lots of illustrations both of his own work and that of other photographers and artists too. By showing members some of his competition work and also some of his photographs from his many exhibitions, he explained how photographs can mean very different things to different people. He started with some of his still-life work, faces made out of fruit and then showed how rocks and beach seascapes can look like prehistoric animals, and what can be derived from this, with digital work. Many of his images have been well received by various judges in club competitions and some have been accepted in the Welsh Salon of Photography. Body language can play a part in some photographs, and Harry showed his appreciative audience examples of how artists have achieved this, and then how he has interpreted it in his photographic work. He used examples of advertising photographs which communicate with a single image for greater impact, and showed how some of his own work had been improved by means of digital enhancement. It was a very interesting evening and gave members many good ideas of how they can improve their own work. Next Thursday's meeting will be a mini-competition (judged on the night) with the subject 'Fruit and Veg' (bring one digital image) and this will be followed by a workshop on storage and back-up.
