Competition is hotting up in the club. A total of 42 players enjoyed a very pleasant evening on Wednesday, May 14, battling with each other and with lady luck in an 11-table Mitchell. More than half the pairs in both N/S and E/W scored above 50 per cent - someone had to be disappointed!
Results, North/South: 1. June Jones and Wendy Thornton 62.22 per cent; equal 2. Derek Earle and Malcolm Gunning with Nicky Hancock and Peter Oeppen 59.44; 4. Valerie and Douglas Burcham 59.17.
East/West: 1. Jill and John O'Sullivan 59.09; equal 2. Marjorie Wilkinson and Eileen Dowling with Gareth Jones and Wally Heaton 56.06; 4. Rosemary Hathaway and Irene Warlow 51.01.
Director Kevin Thomas welcomed all, especially the occasional visitors, Valerie and Doug Burcham. He then announced that the new club diary of events/ telephone list was imminent, subject to those wishing to opt out of their 'phone number being included, courtesy of management member Lyn Lawson.
There was another well attended club night on Friday, May 16, with a high number scoring well. Results: equal 1. Doug Silcox and Kevin Thomas, with Sue Enfield and Judy Lewis 57.41; 3. Margaret Davies and Irene Delahunty 55.93; 4. Doug and Valerie Burcham 54.81; 5. Coral Jones and Irene Warlow 54.44.
