Finishing off the year, we've had some quality fish weighed in during matches, even if some of the anglers have gone into early hibernation! It's difficult to blame them with some of temperatures we've had! As indicated in the last report, the match list for 2011 has been finalised and for those that haven't yet collected theirs, it is available on the club's website. As I write this report, the weather's closing in and it's snowing yet again. Ho Ho Ho! Latest match results are:
December 11, beach match, Pendine: The last Pendine visit of the year proved to be surprisingly hard going with some undersized fish caught and just a couple of dabs and one flounder troubling the scales. More was expected given that we had a good session in the darkness, but never mind.
1. Karl Boyle, dab 0.337 kg; 2. G. P. Thomas, flounder, 0.293 kg; 3. Barry Taylor, dab 0.153kg.
December 15, mid-week match: The competitors decided to head for Saundersfoot in search of dabs for this latest mid-week jaunt. Some of the anglers were not disappointed, with two cracking dabs coming to Garfield and John Hinde. Both fish exceeded the best dab weighed in all year to date.
1. John Hinde, dab 0.516 kg; 2. G. P. Thomas, bag 0.681 kg; 3. Barry Taylor, dab 0.173 kg.
December 19, Fur 'n' Feather: The weather forecasts leading up to the Fur 'n' Feather were all over the shop regarding the possibility of snow or otherwise. It was a difficult 'call' to know whether to go ahead, but in the end we did. Amroth, Saundersfoot, North and Castle Beaches were the venues of choice.
Whilst a bitterly cold easterly wind didn't help the catch prospects, some excellent quality fish were again recorded, with the Ex-Servicemen's Trophy being won by Julian Davies with a superb top condition flounder. Barry and Louvain Taylor again did the club proud with their excellent choices of prizes for the anglers and everyone went home happy, if a little cold.
1. Julian Davies, flounder 0.913 kg; 2. G. P. Thomas, bag 1.152 kg; 3. Chrissie Hodges, flounder 0.545 kg; 4. Stuart Allen, flounder 0.470 kg.
There's just one match left in the 2010 calendar and that's the post Christmas flattie bash at Llanstephan on December 29. Fishing is scheduled to be between 10 am and 2 pm. Clearly, the weather may yet intervene and we will only travel if it seems safe to do so. With that in mind and in the event that the bad weather continues, would any anglers intending to fish the match contact Nev on 07500 417737 to confirm whether the match is on or not the evening before.
After that, the first match of the New Year is the Vice Presidents' Trophy which is a flatfish 'takes preference' event at Pendine. Fishing will be between 11 am and 3 pm. We may have beach access for this match, so be prompt at the booking in.
Finally, a happy Christmas and a healthy New Year to all.
