The year's almost finished, but the catches for the winter so far are surprisingly poor. We can only hope for an upturn after Christmas. The latest two matches of the year were the annual Fur and Feather and the final mid-week contest.
After a year-long battle, Garfield Thomas emerged victorious in the club's 'Premiership', but only after being pushed all the way in a determined fashion by Barry Taylor.
December 14, Fur and Feather: Good conditions were an unusual occurrence for the annual Fur and Feather. A south-westerly storm (somewhere in the Atlantic for a change!) produced a nice clean surf on the local beaches and a lack of wind made fishing very pleasant. Twenty-three anglers tried their luck for the £100 first prize and, with the exception of Barry Taylor's five-bearded rockling, the rest of the catch comprised flounders, with the best bags coming from the North Beach.
Results were: 1. Mike Williams, flounder 0.688 kg; 2. Mike Bradshaw, bag 1.224 kg; 3. Stuart Allen, flounder 0.602 kg; 4. John Nicholas, flounder 0.508 kg.
It's also worth noting that Evie Williams took the Creese Junior Cup with a flounder of 0.393 kg.
The club's thanks are extended to Barry and Louvain Taylor for their sterling efforts in ensuring there was both an excellent prize table for the anglers and a fine array of other prizes for the raffle at the after-event festivities in the Ex-Servicemen's Club.
December 17, mid-week match: Just six anglers had a go at the final Mid-Week match. Venues visited were Freshwater East and Hobbs Point in Pembroke Dock. Fishing continues to be scratchy, with a couple of LSD and one whiting weighed in.
Results were: 1. G. P. Thomas, LSD 0.682 kg; 2. Mike Williams, bag 1.338 kg.
