Congratulations to members of Tenby-Aces Cycling Club who took part in The Dragon cycle sportive last Sunday. With a choice of either an 85 or 125- mile challenging route through the Afan Valley and over the Brecon Beacons, it was to be no picnic. The Dragon is the biggest event in the Cyclosportive calendar with 2,250 riders having registered to start. Semi-pros Nick Brown and Richard Harrison completed the longer course in staggering times, Darren Mutter also performed well, choosing the shorter route following a hectic cycling schedule which recently included a 24-hour mountain bike challenge. Andrew Milward and Gareth Rees chose the longer route, but decided that just finishing within the 11- hour window would be good enough; happily this was achieved by some way. Congratulations are extended to Mike Lindsey, alias Ed Spankie, of the Pembrokeshire Velos, who was only minutes behind Nick Brown, despite a puncture. Same goes to those who took part from the Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club - I don't have any names, but recognised the club jerseys as they passed me! Last Friday night, The Tenby-Aces had their first ever social evening, starting with plenty of good food at the Kook-a-ba in Saundersfoot and a couple of drinks to wash it all down (soft drinks, of course, for those due to take part in The Dragon ride). The evening was a great success, enjoyed by all, and we are planning to have regular social events in the future. The club is also continuing with its Tuesday and Thursday evening club runs, which leave Tenby Leisure Centre at 6.30 pm, as well as regular Sunday morning rides which also leave TLC around 8.30 am. Please just come along and join in (cycling helmets must be worn on all club rides). G.R.
