Tenby Aces Cycling Club held their end of season Christmas party at the Fourcroft Hotel in early December, with an excellent turnout of over 70 members and guests enjoying the meal and fun.

Members wish to thank the management and staff for their warm welcome and for the quality food and service provided.

On the night, prizes for the year were awarded for a variety of categories, including the main awards to Alex Brace (Most Improved Junior) and John Shuttleworth (Most Improved Senior). Gareth Rees was awarded the 'Tenby Aces Competitors Award', and Jon Mills won the Club 'Members Member' Award.

Cycling time trial certificates were presented to Josh Fiddy, Alex Hamilton, George Scott, Alex Brace and Tanis Hand, and the 'Falling off the bike award' was so well supported that several people had runners-up prizes, with the main award going to Perry Jenkins for his outstanding display one summer's day at Angle.

Pat Currie won the 'Tenby Aces Bull Award' and can be seen at the front of the picture with the other prize winners.

The pre-Christmas ride saw 19 Aces out to try the shorter version of the Tour of Pembrokeshire - a testing 64-mile route, with a lunch stop at Newgale. Some interesting fancy dress outfits were on parade, including a couple of Santas and a Widow Twankey (we think)! - with Gareth providing the fairy lights and festive music.

Boxing Day saw three hardy Aces - Carlton, Tanis and Charlie - braving the traditional Tenby Boxing Day Swim in pretty cold weather, but they soon warmed up with some of the less hardy members over a drink in Tenby later!

To end the year, five Aces - Gareth, Tanis, Corina Holley, Jon and Debbie Phillips - took on the Ogmore Valley Wheelers 'JD Winter Warmer' 10-mile Time Trial at Resolven, Neath, on December 28. It was a bitterly cold and windy morning, so no fast times were posted, but Tanis won the fastest lady category and everyone enjoyed the hot soup and coffee afterwards.

Turbo training will be starting again on January 8 at Tenby Leisure Centre from 7.30 pm. It is free for junior members, with more Turbo equipment now available thanks to the sports grant recently awarded to the club. Please feel free to give it a go - you just need to bring your own bike. For more information, call Jon Mills at Tenby Cycles. Club rides continue on weekends (weather permitting) at 7.30 am on Saturdays and 9 am on Sundays.

Finally, the club would like to thank the staff of the Tenby Observer for their continued support and wish them and everyone a happy and successful New Year!
