Having been dealt a knockout blow just a few months ago when they had to close their doors to members, in true boxing spirit Tenby ABC have now got themselves back in the ring and are preparing for a new challenge. Joining forces with Preseli and Narberth ABC, Tenby have now settled at their new gym quarters in Narberth, and are attracting so much interest from local youngsters keen to develop themselves in the sport that they have scheduled their first show to be staged in the New Year at the town's Queens Hall. "We have worked really hard together to do up the gym, by putting new equipment in which was kindly given to us by the owner of our previous base in Tenby, Mr. Mike Haines, who has continued to be very supportive of the club," explained Kim Baker ,one of the officers and trainers at the gym. "After searching for a new base for a while, all involved with Tenby ABC are delighted to have joined forces with Preseli and Narberth ABC, with everyone settling down well and keen to make use of our new gym as much as possible," he continued. However, Kim admitted that none of it would have been possible without the hard work of everyone involved and the kind sponsorship they had received from local businesses. "So far we have been so lucky with sponsors with contributions from John Deer Tractors, T 'n' T Tyres, and the RAOB Club, Narberth, who have all kindly donated £100. That, along with Jewsons of Haverfordwest donating materials to us and one of our trainers, builder Jimmy Morris, also providing materials, has all really helped us, so a big thank you to everyone who has chipped in and supported the cause," said Kim. Kim points to the enthusiasm and devotion of all the members of the gym, where everyone from young girls and boys to rugby players train amongst each other making the most of the facilities. "On some nights we get around 20 to 30 youngsters at the gym, which is great to see as I believe it's a great way to get them away from the television and into a sport which teaches them discipline and control, and also keeps them fit," said Kim. The gym is open on Monday between 7 and 8.30 pm, and Wednesdays and Fridays from 6 to 7.30 pm, with new members always encouraged to come along. Tenby ABC are now looking for sponsors for their first show in Narberth's Queens Hall next year on January 20. Anyone interested can contact Kim Baker on 01834 810292 or Jimmy Morris on 01437 769184.
