November 1 was back to school day for local AM Christine Gwyther and Carwyn Jones, minister for the environment. They visited Templeton School to find out just how environmentally conscious children of primary and junior school age really are. Christine told us: "It's amazing how much the children know about the world around us. The school council gave us a guided tour of the school grounds at Templeton, including their water butts, wild flower meadow, their wildlife pond and their wormery. "It was a beautiful day, and a chance to show the natural environment of Pembrokeshire at its best. As always, Pembrokeshire kids did us proud, and showed that not only do they understand nature - they love and appreciate it. "With all the frightening news of global warming which is current, this is the best news of all - that through practical education being delivered locally - our children are determined to look after the planet. "Now it is up to us adults to make sure we don't let them down. We can all do our bit - from switching off the standby button on our television sets to filling the kettle with just the right amount of water for our tea and coffee. "It's a simple message that we all need to take on board - treating the planet as if we - and our children - mean to stay!"
