With all activities at a standstill due to the Coronavirus and with no sign of any improvement in the situation Templeton Heritage Group thought to revisit some of its earlier activities.
One of the most successful events held was the ‘RAF Templeton’ exhibition depicting the history of the airfield and commemorating the 70th year anniversary of the opening of RAF Templeton in 1943.
The group were fortunate in obtaining Wing Commander Gary Partridge (now Group Captain Partridge) to open the exhibition.
The Wing Commander who is a local boy regaled those present with many tales of his early cadet days, many spent on Templeton airfield.
The group were also privileged to have former World War 11 Spitfire pilot Flight Lieutenant John Winship as a guest.
John flew Spitfires for the Photo Reconnaissance unit and became a Spitfire Instructor.
The two airmen went on to compare their experiences of two very different aeroplanes John’s iconic Spitfire or Gary’s experience with the Mighty Tornados
Returning to the future it is hoped to be able to hold a Remembrance Service on Wednesday, November 11 on the village Green Car Park but this will depend on any regulations that may be in force at that time and if the service can comply.
