Two teenage boys have been hailed heroes after a dramatic early hours of the morning incident at Tenby Harbour.

The pair, Russell Evans, aged 17, from Penally, and Adam Richards, 18, also from Penally, were walking Russell's dog, Barney, when the drama unfolded just after the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

They saw a car plunge into the water at approximately 1.35 am last Tuesday morning.

The man inside managed to get out of the submerged vehicle and the boys quickly threw him a life ring before notifying the police.

Inspector Tim Hoad at Tenby Police Station said this week that he had spoken to his officers who had attended the incident and they had said that if the lads had not been there, they fear the driver of the vehicle may not have been rescued, because there was nobody else in the immediate area who could have notified the police that the vehicle had been driven into the water.

Said the Inspector: "The driver was able to free himself from the vehicle which was totally submerged.

"The lads contacted the police and threw a life ring into the water to assist the driver.

"The police then attended the scene and together with the two lads managed to again throw a life ring to the driver who took hold of it and was pulled to safety."

The Inspector continued: "It was extremely fortunate that the lads were in the right place at the right time.

"If it had not been for their brave actions, I fear there may have been a totally different outcome."

Inspector Hoad added that the police would like to thank the lads for their assistance.

The driver of the vehicle was a middle aged man from Kilgetty.
