A 17-year-old student was tragically killed in a road traffic accident last Thursday morning.

Samantha Kaye Jenkins, of Cowsland Farm, Begelly, died after her Volkswagen Golf car was in collision with a lorry on the A40 at Slebech at approximately 8.25 am.

She was driving to Pembrokeshire College where she was in her second and final year of the National Diploma in Applied Science (Sports Studies) course when the accident occurred.

Samantha had only recently returned to Britain from a dream holiday in the USA with her boyfriend Aiden Montgomery and his parents.

She and 22-year-old Aiden were both champion modern line dancers and had hoped to get married in the future.

The only daughter of Tracy and David Jenkins and the sister of 11-year-old Daniel, Samantha had also planned to go to university, and after she had left home on Thursday her first letter of acceptance was delivered in the post.

"Sam had so much to live for," said her mother Tracy.

"She was focused, committed, dedicated and loyal and knew exactly what she wanted and where she was going. She will leave a very big gap in the lives of so many people."

Sam was a former pupil of Tenby Infants and Junior Schools and the town's Greenhill School, where special assemblies were held on Friday.

"All the way through school she gave110 per cent, and yet was modest and unassuming about her achievements" said Deputy Head, Mr. Bob Winder who remembered Samantha as a 'student and a lovely girl'.

At Pembrokeshire College, Samantha's tutor, Suzanne Thomas described her as a "vibrant young student who showed maturity ahead of her years."

Samantha's funeral took place yesterday (Thursday) when a service at St. Issell's Church, Saundersfoot was followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth.

The A40 was closed for seven hours last Thursday whilst the emergency services dealt with the accident.

The driver of the lorry involved who was from the Pontyates area of Llanelli suffered shock.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact Haverfordwest police station on (01437) 763355.
