Sir,

On behalf of Tearfund, I would like to say a huge 'thank you' for your tremendous support in 2008.

By publicising Tearfund appeals, promoting campaigns like: Facebook SuperBadger and My Global Impact, the Observer, with the people of Pembrokeshire, has assisted Tearfund in their 10-year vision to see 50-million people released from material and spiritual poverty by 2016.

With your help we have made a good start, but with the current economic crisis, not forgetting the struggles in Gaza, DR Congo and Zimbabwe, it is evident that we live in a world where poverty and injustice persist.

In 2009, Tearfund will be focusing on five main areas that we consider the fundamentals that need to be addressed in the fight against poverty: HIV; tackling disasters; challenging injustice; restoring the environment; water and sanitation.

We at Tearfund are relying on Pembrokeshire's continued support in 2009.

One way people can help is by getting involved with 'Global Poverty Prayer Week' from February 23 to March 1.

In your church groups, with your friends or at home alone, please consider just shutting the door, and praying that our 10-year vision will become a reality. Plenty of prayer resources are available at http://www.tearfund.org.uk">www.tearfund.org.uk

Together we can make a difference in 2009.

Sharron Hardwick,

Tearfund's media officer

for Pembrokeshire.
