The ladies of St. Mary's Church with enviable talent concerning all things green, i.e. the flower festival committee, recently held a very successful afternoon 'Tea and Tips' event at Church House. The occasion was well attended and greatly enjoyed by all the supporters.

The afternoon began with an inspiring demonstration of how to transform a reasonably small number of flowers and an array of greenery into beautifully artistic displays. This was expertly delivered by Jan Griffiths and the attractive displays were later given as raffle prizes to several lucky winners.

Following the demonstration, a delicious tea was served by the flower ladies and willing helpers. Delicate sandwiches and cakes were enjoyed by all, while the audience marvelled at the skill of these ladies and how they made flower arranging look so simple when, in fact, it borders on rocket science to some of us!

The purpose of the event was to raise funds for the forthcoming Jubilee Flower Festival, which will be held from June 1-5 from 10 am to 8 pm each day. Various organisations within the town and surrounding area will be invited to contribute displays for the festival. Individuals and families are also invited to sponsor a floral arrangement in the festival, with a contribution of £40 being requested. The names of the sponsors will appear on the arrangement and in the FF leaflet.

The funds raised during the festival will be used to enhance the collection towards the organ restoration project.

The annual Posies Festival of Remembrance will also be staged later this summer, running from July 12-15.

Further events are planned by the energetic and enthusiastic FF committee and it is hoped that support for these ventures will be as positive as it was this delightful afternoon occasion.
