Sir,
I am writing to you in response to the letter the other week from Gavin Thomas (sore feet) regarding the lack of taxis in the area.
I am a taxi driver and I happened to pick up Mr. Thomas the week after he wrote his letter, to take him to Tenby. He introduced himself and we discussed his letter during the journey.
He told me what happened and I explained that if the phones are put through to the driver's mobile and they are out of signal (which covers a large part of this county, even parts of Tenby), the call will go straight through to the answerphone.
I also mentioned that during the week, the latest he'll probably get a taxi is 1 am, because, unlike London (where he now lives), there isn't much demand for the service after that time.
When I finished my shift that night at around 1.10 am, I got home and went to bed. I got awoken by a missed call at 2.01 am. As I had an early start the following morning, I turned the phone off and went back to sleep.
When I turned the phone back on in the morning I found I had four answerphone messages from Mr. Thomas, at 2.01 am, 2.11 am, 2.18 am and 2.33 am, even though I clearly told him that we finished operating at 1 am during the week.
My advice to Mr. Thomas is - please listen to the times that firms operate when you're informed and if you want to use the service on offer, please be a little more courteous, otherwise buy some very good walking boots to prevent those sore feet!
