Pupils from Tavernspite School are pulling on their plimsolls to help raise funds for the RNLI.

The school's annual Tavernspite Trailblazers Walk will take place on June 7 this year, with teachers, parents and pupils all taking part.

"The PTA has started a wonderful tradition with this annual walk which has raised thousands of pounds for different charities and the school," said headteacher Kevin Phelps.

"The event fits in with our ethos as a healthy school and it's wonderful to see everyone get involved, from grandpa to the tiniest toddler."

For the first time this year, a Tiny Trailblazers will take place on the school sports field for the infants to walk as far as they can in 20 minutes.

Older children will undertake a six-mile walk and there's also a tough 13-mile course for adults.

"We are delighted that Tavernspite School wants to support us in this way and we hope that everyone will sponsor the children in their efforts," said RNLI volunteer presenter, Jennie McIntosh.

PTA chairman Rupal Naik added: "To get into the spirit of things, we are also asking people to wear maritime fancy dress this year.

"It's always been a great occasion for the whole school and we hope to raise even more money this year."
