The youngsters of Pembrokeshire YFC have set the benchmark for their older counterparts to follow in this year's public speaking competitions.

The standard at the junior public speaking competition was consistently high from all nine teams, giving judge Malcolm Lewis an incredibly tough task.

The members, all aged 16 and under, had to chair a meeting, present a speech up to six minutes long or propose a vote of thanks in front of a packed audience at Agriculture House in Haverfordwest.

Eventually it proved to be Templeton YFC's night, as they took home three of the four trophies on offer.

Vincent Morse regained the best speaker cup after his inspirational speech on giving blood, while his sister Bryony was named the best proposer of the vote of thanks.

Along with Hannah Phillips, the team scooped the overall trophy ahead of second placed Eglwyswrw YFC and Llawhaden and Llysyfran YFCs in joint third position.

The best chairman award went to Christina Morgan, of Llysyfran YFC.

The public speaking season continues with the junior public reading competition on November 7, followed by the senior section on November 10 and 11, and finally the intermediate category on November 24 and 25.
