Rob Evans found his best form to win the Valentine's Day stableford on February 14. A fine score of 40 points earned first prize and a welcome visit from the handicap secretary, reducing him to 10, just a sniff from single figures.

John Smith, with 38, was second, getting the better of playing partner Walter Witts thanks to a superior back nine. John and Walter were also attended to by the extremely active handicap secretary, also known to readers of this column as the headmaster, an appropriate nickname for one who wields the big stick with such relish!

Congratulations especially to Walter on being reduced to nine. Roger Thompson made the only two of the day.
