The recent heavy rainfall has played havoc with competitive golf at Trefloyne, with the Seniors' stableford being lost on January 29, together with the midweek games on February 3 and 5. More disappointing was the loss of the Saturday Medstab on January 31 - yet another washout.
The Juniors managed to play their nine-hole winter foursomes league on Sunday, February 1, when the best card, for an excellent 20 points, was submitted by James Maxwell and Ben Price.
Despite all the rain, plenty of winter/spring league cards have been completed, with many entrants now having played either three or four rounds. Phil Catlin and Mike Ansell, both having played four, now lead the top division with 134 and 127, respectively. Richard Davies, thanks to a handy 42 on his third card, comes next with 119 from three. Also strongly placed having played three are Meurig Evans with 111 and Gerald John with 110.
Danny Brown has taken the lead in the lower division after two successive scores of 37. He's played four and has 135 points. Brian Norman lies second with 114 and is the only other to have played four. Ken Badham and Peter Scourfield are third and fourth with 111 and 106 respectively, each having played three.
Of those who have just started their league campaign and have only played a round or two, Mel Neale, in the top division, has handed in a 39, and Angelo Zeraschi, in the lower division, has posted a 38.
Off the winter tees, 38 stableford points is the standard expected, and it is interesting that of the first 89 winter league cards submitted, only six have bettered that score, four in the Tiger division (Richard Davies, twice, as well as Phil Catlin and Mel Neale) and two in the Rabbits (Ken Badham and Gary Heesom).
