The strong breeze on Saturday, January 24, meant conditions were by no means easy for the stableford competition, but nevertheless some excellent cards were handed in.

The best was by Gary Heesom, winner with 40 points, but he was closely pressed by Jack Zeraschi, second on countback with 39, and Andrew Evans, third, also on countback. Ken Badham, Gareth Burks, Bob Burks and Meurig Evans made twos.

Most of the 42 entrants for the winter/spring league have completed two of their 12 stableford cards (best eight to count) and the best individual effort to date has come from Phil Catlin with 41 on his second card. This puts him well in contention in the Tiger division (0-15 handicaps), which a sprightly David Owen currently tops with 79, although he has played three cards. Richard Davies is second with 77 (38 and 39) and Gerald John third with 76 (38 twice). He is closely pursued by Meurig Evans on 75 (38 and 37), with Phil Catlin fifth on 70.

Gary Heesom and Ken Badham both handed in 40-point cards, first time out in the Rabbits division (16-28) handicaps. Ken's second card of 36 pushes him into the joint lead with 76, where he is tied with John Bancroft (38 twice). Third is Peter Scourfield on 71 (34 and 37), while Gary Heesom is fourth on 70.

Angelo Zeraschi scored 38 points to win the Tuesday stableford on January 27. Danny Brown was second with 36 and Roger Cryer third with 35.

The Juniors have started their winter nine-hole foursomes league, and the early leaders, after the first round on Sunday, January 25, are Luke Laidler and Leighton Gwyther, with a score of 17 points.
