The Christmas Spirit competition, scheduled for Saturday, December 20, was a casualty of the exceptionally heavy overnight rain which held up the start of play.
This was disappointing for the members and the sponsors, Brian Cowley and Liz Crockford, who had kindly donated prizes for the event.
Ironically, the course had dried out by mid morning and plenty of informal games were played, with the captain, Ian Lawrence, hitting the first ball of the day, only to see it fielded beautifully in the covers by a Trefloyne crow. Cue much laughter from his playing partners.
The Dormel Cup, sponsored by Trefloyne stalwarts Dorritt Parry and Mel Beeley, has an established place in the club's calendar, taking place on the first weekend of the year. Richard Preece won last year with 42 points in tricky, frosty conditions and the sponsors will be hoping for good weather and a large turnout for this year's contest, which takes place this Saturday, January 3. 4
The entry form is in the Pro's shop.
After the Dormel Cup, attention will turn to the winter/spring league which starts on January 10.
