Trophy winners of the last 12 months competed for the 'All Winners Masters Shield' on Sunday, October 5. For those who had not won a major competition, and thus failed to qualify for the Masters, there was the opportunity to play for the Lawrence Stableford Shield, a new trophy kindly presented by men's captain, Ian Lawrence.

Both events were played off the white tees, and with the course offering a tough but fair test, the best score of the day was 35 points, made by Steve Wedlake to win the Masters Shield. He was followed home by the consistent Chris Thompson who scored 34, and Gerald John, third with 33.

Phil Catlin became the inaugural winner of the Lawrence Shield with a score of 34. The rest of the field found the course much too touch on the day, with Giles Smith runner-up on 27 and Micky Hale third with 25.

Chris Thompson's win in the Wesley House singles final and his second place in the October medal earned him valuable points as he made a late run to win the 2003 Table of Merit. His winning tally was 51 points and enabled him to reverse last year's placings with 2002 winner Meurig Evans, who this time finished with 45, and had to be content with the runner-up spot. Mike WIlliams was third with 37, Dean Rawlins fourth with 34 and Steve Wedlake fifth with 31.

There was no midweek game on October 9, but on Thursday, October 11, John Smith was in top form, winning with 38 points. Richard Davies was second with 37 and Roger Thompson third with 35.

The autumn eclectic competition started last Saturday, October 11, and concludes on Friday, November 28. Entrants have seven weeks in which to submit six cards (no more than one card per week).
