The change from stableford to Medstab format for the Saturday competition on February 1 suited John Bancroft, whose gross 83 (off 17) produced a winning medstab score of 24 points. Those extra shots were crucial, enabling him to get the better of the in-form Dean Rawlins, second on 26 (off 10), and Chris Thompson, third on 28 (off scratch). Darren Crockford and Garfield Price each registered a two.

There has been an influx of new members to Trefloyne over the winter, and one of them, Perry Jenkins, notched up his first competition win with victory in the stableford on Saturday, February 8. His excellent 43 points produced a comfortable winning margin, with Keith Hubbard second on 40 and Richard Preece third on 39, thanks to a better back nine than four others who finished with the same score. There were twos for George King, Richard Preece, John Shaw and Graham Wharton.

Dean Rawlins is maintaining his cracking winter form, winning two of the three midweek stablefords in the last fortnight. Midweek results:

February 4 - 1. T. Whiston 37; joint 2. R. Thompson, A. Zeraschi and P. Corcoran.

February 11 - 1. D. Rawlins 36 (back nine); 2. M. Williams 36; 3. G. King 35.

February 13 - 1. D. Rawlins 40; 2. K. Webster 30; 3. B. Norman 37.

Good luck to Chris Thompson and Darren Crockford who will represent Trefloyne in the Daily Mail Foursomes. As winners of the Paddock Inn Pairs in 2002 they defeated Bush House Pairs winners Barry Thorne and Gerald John in a play-off for the honour of representing Trefloyne.

Dean Rawlins has taken advantage of his run of good form by playing his cards early in the winter/spring league. He has already submitted nine of his 12 cards, and easily leads the top division with a score (from his best eight) of 294. Meurig Evans is second with 182 (from five) and Phil Catlin has moved up to third with 175 (five).

Successive scores of 39 and 37 have fired Brian Norman into the lead in the Second Division. He has 201 from six. In second place is Graham Harrison on 187 (seven) and Terry Whiston is third with 159 (five). Further down the field, Garfield Price is showing promising form with 146 (from four).

Nathan Lewis and Matthew Rees have opened up a clear lead after four rounds of the junior winter nine-hole foursomes league. They have 70 points. Luke Laidler and Leighton Gwyther have 60, and Matthew McMann and Ashley Evans are third with 57. Close behind in fourth are James Maxwell and David Warren on 55.
