Senior golfers filled almost all the leading places in the last monthly medal of the season, played on Saturday, October 5. The younger members were put firmly in their places as Seniors captain Graham Wharton won the Tiger division, his first medal win, and was followed home by Senior colleagues Ivan Kirk and Roger Thompson. Although Dave Shooter won the Rabbits division, thus restoring some pride to the under 55s, Seniors Terry Whiston and Peter Scourfield filled the places.

October medal result: Tigers (0-15 handicaps) - 1. G. Wharton 87-15=net 73; 2. I. Kirk 91-15=76; 3. R. Thompson 88-10=78. Rabbits (16-24 handicaps) - 1. D. Shooter 90-18=72; 2. T. Whiston 95-20=75; 3. P. Scourfield 92-16=76. Rob Evans made the only two.

The medal result left the leading places in the Trefloyne Order of Merit 2002 unchanged, with Meurig Evans topping the final with 50 points. Chris Thompson was second with 35, and last year's winner, Gerald John, finished third with 30. Roger Cryer was fourth with 26 and Barry Thorne fifth with 25.

Ian Lawrence achieved the notable feat of retaining the Trefloyne Masters Shield, an end-of-season competition for which entry is limited to the winners of medals and other major tournaments during the past year. This year's contest was held on Sunday, October 6, and the club treasurer was in fine form as he accumulated an impressive 40 points. For the second successive day Ivan Kirk finished runner-up, scoring 34, and Barry Thorne was third with 32. The winner and Rob Evans, the latter becoming something of a twos specialist, each recorded a deuce.

The Ladies also held an all winners competition and this year's winner, on countback, was Heather Thorne with 27. Glenda Pearce, also 27 points, was the unlucky runner-up and third, with 24, was Michaela Edwards.

Ivan Kirk received some consolation for his two weekend runner-up spots by winning the Tuesday stableford on October 8. He scored 34, and was followed in by Barry Thorne, 32, and John Cliff, 30.
