Trefloyne's Dyfed League team commenced a run of three home matches with a 4-2 win against Rosemarket on Saturday, August 24.

It was a match notable for some substantial winning margins, not least the 9 and 8 victory registered by Chris Thompson and Tom Hilling. Ivan Kirk and Roger Cryer also won handsomely, 7 and 6, and there were good wins for Rob Evans and Simon Hilling, 4 and 3, and Barry Thorne and Gerald John, 2 and 1.

However, Rosemarket showed they could also dish out heavy punishment, as Roger Thompson and Adam Thomas found themselves in the wrong end of a 4 and 3 drubbing. Steve Wedlake and Alan Brown went down 3 and 2, and, in the day's closest game, Pat Corcoran and John Smith lost one down.

Barry Thorne won the stableford on Sunday, August 25, scoring 37 points. The Lydstep duo of Steve Wedlake, 35 points, and Neil Thomas, 34, were second and third respectively. No-one scored a two.

Roger Cryer won the Seniors stableford on Thursday, August 22, carding a magnificent 40 points, and it was just as well he did so, as Nigel Chappel was hard on his heels with 39. Wayne Connett was third with 36.

On Tuesday, August 27, there was a three-way tie, Ivan Kirk taking the honours on countback. Roger Thompson was second and Wayne Connett again finished third. All three scored 34 points.

On Thursday, August 29, there was another countback decision and this time it worked in favour of Wayne Connett who won with 33. John Cook was second, also with 33, and Graham Wharton third with 32.

The semi-finals of the two matchplay singles cups have now been completed. In the Laidler Cup, Rob Evans beat last year's runner-up Meurig Evans and meets Roger Cryer in the final. The headmaster seems to be back to his best having enjoyed a fine 4 and 3 victory over the holder, Carl French, in their semi-final.

Chris Hicks beat last year's runner-up, Barry Thorne, in the semi-final of the Wesley House Cup and plays Carl French in the final. The vice-captain gained ample compensation for his defeat in the Laidler by winning his Wesley House semi-final against Phil Jenkinson.

The Juniors continued their summer league on Sunday, August 25. James Maxwell's 40 points were the best of the day and he was followed home by Luke Laidler, 38, and Ben Edwards, 37.

Congratulations to Tom Hilling on his recent handicap reduction. Playing off nine, Tom is Trefloyne's first junior to attain a single figure handicap. The odds are that his brother, Simon, now off playing 10, will be the next. Both golfers are regulars in the Trefloyne Dyfed League team.
