Trefloyne's Dyfed League team enjoyed their first away win of the season when bating Cwmrhydneuadd on July 20. Chris Thompson and Adam Thomas saw the visitors off to the best possible start, winning 2 up. Carl French and Tom Hilling then won 3 and 2, and with Gerald John and Simon Hilling posting a 4 and 3 win Trefloyne were going well. The hosts fought back, however, and defeats followed for David Owen and Mel Beeley, 2 down, and Roger Thompson and Rob Evans, 3 and 2. There was a half for the elderly pairing of Ivan Kirk and Roger Cryer, and Trefloyne then finished the match in fine style with a 7 and 6 win by the family duo of Terry Morris and Nathan Lewis.
The result was a fine 4.5-2.5 win for Trefloyne. Team captain Roger Thompson said afterwards that "this was by far our best performance of the season. The course was challenging and interesting and thanks are due to all the players who were prepared to travel such a long distance to represent the club."
That excellent win was not, unfortunately, emulated by the Seniors who made their annual visit to St. David's on Thursday, July 25. It was an unusually eventful afternoon for the lead pair, Graham Wharton and Roger Thompson. The latter limped off after 12 holes, perhaps due to being clouted by his partner after miscounting at the seventh. Graham struggled on alone to earn a half, having been dormie one up. Pat Corcoran and Tom Fletcher made a fine comeback from dormie three down to snatch another half, but the hosts pinched a full point from John Cliff and John Rolfe who had been four up at one stage.
Chris Hicks and Neil Thomas played well to win their game, as did Terry Whiston and Ivan Kirk, but there were defeats for the pairings of Mel Beeley and Ken Webster, John Smith and Brian Norman, and Clive John and Wayne Connett. Result: St. David's 5 Trefloyne 3.
The Saundersfoot trio of Tom Fletcher, Roger Cryer and Liz Crockford (a rose between two thorns if ever there was one) won the mixed Texas Scramble on Sunday, July 21.
The Juniors played the fourth round of their summer league on July 21. The event doubled as a qualifier for the Adams Cup at Haverfordwest, to which Trefloyne will be sending a team of four. No fewer than six players finished with 37 points, and the leading four on countback were, in finishing order, Matthew McMann, Alessandro Servini, Ben Edwards and Nathan Lewis. These four thus make the team for Haverfordwest, with Richard Thomas and Tom Hilling, who both also scored 37, available as reserves. Leighton Gwyther also scored well, finishing with 36.
