Gerald John won the stableford on Saturday, February 23. His winning score of 33 was low by recent standards, reflecting the difficult, windy conditions. Rob Evans was second with 31, and Barry Thorne third with 30. Nobody registered a two.
Phil Catlin hit top form to win the medstab on Saturday, March 3, with an outstanding score of 28 medstab points, well ahead of the rest of the field. Medstab result: 1. P. Catlin (83 - 15) - 40 = 28; 2. Bob Burks (89 - 15) - 34 = 40; 3. A. Brown (93 - 16) - 32 = 45. John Bancroft and Bob Burks each scored a two.
Ian Lawrence made the best score in week seven of the winter/spring league. His fine 38 was one of only four scores of 36 or better. Neil Thomas scored 37, and Roger Cryer and Terry Morris scored 36 each. Leader Mel Neale didn't lose much ground with a respectable 35.
Peter Scourfield was the star in week eight, returning to his best form with a 42-point haul which takes him into the top 10 for the first time. Terry Morris cemented his second place with a fine 39, a score matched by another consistent performer, Terry Whiston. Roger Thompson and Meurig Evans maintained their challenges, each scoring 37, while leader Mel Neale posted another 36, a score equalled by Gerald John and Bob Maxwell.
After eight weeks league leaders are as follows: 1. M. Neale 303; 2. T. Morris 294; 3. R. Thompson 285; 4. G. John 281; 5. R. Maxwell 279; 6. T. Whiston 277; 7. M. Evans 261; 8. B. Thorne 258; 9. P. Scourfield 255; 10. G. King 251. Meurig Evans has a round in hand on the rest.
Roger Thompson, with 37 points, won the Tuesday stableford on February 26. George King was second with 33, and Graham Wharton third with 32. Mel Neale and Mel Beeley came in one-two in the Seniors' stableford on February 28, scoring 36 and 35, respectively, with Peter Scourfield third on 34.
The Juniors, having missed out due to the weather on February 24, continued with their foursomes league on March 3. Luke Laidler and Leighton Gwyther scored 22 points to retain top spot with 113 after six rounds. Best of the day, however, were Adam Thomas and Tom Hilling with 25, which moves them to within two points of the leaders. Simon Hilling and Daniel Brace remain third on 104, having scored 19 this time. Just two rounds remain.
