Competition secretary Brian Cowley now leads the Trefloyne Order of Merit, recently updated to include the Challenge Cup result and the July Medal. The leaderboard looks distinctly congested with just four points covering the top six, who are: B. Cowley 14 pts; 2. R. Cryer 11; joint 3. R. Windsor, P. Jenkinson, M. Neale and W. Pearce 10 pts each.

John Bancroft won the Saturday stableford on July 21, scoring 36 points and finishing well clear of Rob Evans and Phil Catlin, second and third respectively.

Windsor Nicholas continued his good run of midweek form with a win in the Tuesday stableford on July 24. His fine card of 41 points put him out of sight of the rest, with Paul Griffiths second on 36 and Barry Thorne third with 35.

The Wesley House singles cup has reached the semi-final stage. Barrie Turner will play Barry Thorne, and Darren Crockford will play Allan Jones. All four are making their first semi-final appearances, thus a new name is guaranteed to appear on the trophy this year. These matches to be played by August 19.

Mike Ansell and Ian Lawrence enjoyed mixed fortunes recently in their two pairs quarter-finals. Beaten finalists in last year's Paddock Inn Pairs, they overcame Windsor Nicholas and Brinley Hughes to book another semi-final spot, but in the Bush House Pairs they went down to Brian Cowley and Dave McMann who, as losing finalists last year, remain on course to go one better this time.

The juniors played the first round of the F. H. Gilman Junior Matchplay Cup on Sunday, July 22. There were some exciting contests, and afterwards the draw was made for the second round, in which pairings are as follows: Simon Hilling v Ben Edwards or Daniel Brace; Daniel Edwards v Ashley Evans or James Thomas; Nathan Lewis v Alessandro Servini; Tom Hilling v Adam Thomas.

Forthcoming events at Trefloyne include: tomorrow (Saturday) - monthly medal; August 5 - Dorritt Parry Senior Ladies Salver; August 9 - Seniors at home to Newport (Pembs.); August 18 - Hubbard Rabbits Trophy and Tiger Chalice.
