Welcome visitors to Trefloyne recently were Mrs. Beryl Noyce, chairperson of the Alzheimer's Society for Wales, and Mrs. Stephanie Barley, representing the Alzheimer's Society of Pembrokeshire. Mrs. Barley is also a Matron (EMI) at Bush House Nursing Home, Pembroke, which has very close connections with Trefloyne Golf Club, sponsoring one of the major knock-out cups each year. The purpose of the visit was to collect a cheque for £405 raised by Trefloyne as a result of the Charity Invitation Challenge in May, and this was presented to Mrs. Noyce, on behalf of the club, by Ladies captain Dorritt Parry.

The Trefloyne Challenge Cup, a 36 hole mixed medal competition, played over the weekend of July 14/15, has been won for the first time by a member of Trefloyne's Ladies Section. With the men playing way back from the white tees, Glenda Pearce, taking full advantage of her shots and playing from the ladies' tees, showed a dainty pair of heels to a strong field as she added a fine nett 69 to her first round 75, producing a winning score of 144.

The weekend was something of a celebration for the Pearce family, as husband Bill, with 76 and 70, finished runner-up on 146. He just pushed Phil Jenkinson into third, by virtue of a better second round. Phil had put himself in with a fine chance of top prize after scoring 69 on the Saturday, but a few beers too many that night led to a Sunday 77, to leave him two shots off the pace with 146. Ian Lawrence and Phil Catlin each made a two.

There was a wide smile on Roger Thompson's face after he registered a rare birdie at the renowned quarry hole in the Seniors' stableford on July 12 (for those who haven't heard, he drove over the out of bounds, put a six iron to four feet and putted out). However, his 35 points was only good enough for second, the winner being Windsor Nicholas with 37. John Smith was third with 34.

A week later, and the Trefloyne captain again scored 35, but this time without any flash stuff at the quarry. This was good enough to win, with Seniors' debutant Brian Norman taking second with 33, and Mike Kemp and Bob Burks sharing third with 27 each.

Trefloyne Juniors played an 18-hole stableford on Sunday, July 15. This was a close contest with James Maxwell winning with 39, Ashley Evans second on 38, and Tom Hilling third with 37.
