Competitors in the Bogey competition on Saturday, May 19, found the course much too good for them, with only Ron Webber in credit, winning two up. Bob Burks matched the course to finish all square, and third, on countback, was Peter Scourfield, two down.

That third place was Peter's only blemish in a fortnight during which he has played some superb golf, winning three successive midweek stablefords. Having won on May 15, he then posted 38 points on May 22, to win comfortably from Barry Thorne on 33.

Two days later, turning out in the Seniors stableford on May 24, he accumulated an incredible 45 points. Again, Barry Thorne finished runner-up, this time with a superb 39, a score usually more than good enough to win. Meurig Evans was third with 33.

Members, and Seniors in particular, breathed a sigh of relief after handicap secretary Brian Cowley stepped in smartly to dock Peter four shots and Barry two; enough, hopefully, to restore a competitive element to the midweek contests.

Ian Lawrence was back to his best for the stableford on Saturday, May 25, winning with 35 points. Paul Griffiths was second on countback with 31, and Barry Thomas was third.

The Juniors played an 18-hole stableford on Sunday, May 20. there were close finishes in both divisions. The 0-28 division, off yellows, was won by Nathan Lewis with 39, with Simon Hilling second on 38, and Luke Laidler third with 30.

In the 29 and over category, off the red tees, David Warren won an exciting contest on countback, with Daniel Edwards second. Each played really well in scoring 38. Scott Helmich was third with 34. James Thomas won the medal competition with an excellent net 71.

Poor weather last Sunday resulted in a postponement of the Junior Father and Son competition which will now be held on this Sunday, June 3.
