Mel Neale has deservedly won the Trefloyne Spring League. He led the tournament from the first week and played easily the most consistent golf throughout, with the scores on his best six cards ranging from 35 to 43 points. There was little change to the top 10 in the final week, with only Roger Cryer improving his best six total, and, as a result, moving up to eighth place.
Trefloyne Spring League, final placings (best six scores from eight cards): 1. M. Neale 232; 2. B. Thorne 225; 3. M. Ansell 217; 4. G. John 208; 5. P. Scourfield 204; 6. R. Evans 201; 7. B. Cowley 201; 8. R. Cryer 198; 9. M. Beeley 197; 10. R. Thompson 190.
Allan Jones won the stableford on Saturday, April 28, scoring 34 points and also had the pleasure of recording the only two of the day. Chris Hicks, with 31, was second on countback, with Carl French third.
Trefloyne Seniors played a rearranged match at Milford Haven on Thursday, April 26, and were well and truly beaten by a home side that played terrific golf.
Mel Beeley and Brian Cowley won their game in fine style, 7 and 6, but Tom Fletcher and Chris Hicks were the only other winners for the visitors, although Bob Burks and Bill Pearce earned a half in their game.
Seniors skipper Chic Brown, paired again with men's captain Roger Thompson, went down to what may well be a record defeat for a seniors' captain (whisper it very quietly - they didn't need to play the 14th). A case of too many captains, maybe!
For the rest, this column will spare their blushes by not revealing the scores.
Well done, Milford Haven. The return at Trefloyne in September is eagerly awaited.
The Seniors' next match is a rearranged fixture, away to Newport, Pembs, on Thursday, May 10, and those wishing to play should add their names to the list in the Pro's shop. A week later, Trefloyne Seniors play a home match against South Pembs.
There were close finishes in both divisions of the Trefloyne Juniors' Easter competitions. The standard of golf was exceptional and demonstrated just how far the Juniors have advanced in recent months.
Those in the 0-28 handicap range played an 18-hole medal which was won, on countback, by Nathan Lewis with net 77. The unlucky runner-up, on the same score, was Simon Hilling. Adam Thomas and Luke Laidler tied for third, just a shot adrift, each with net 78.
The competition for those with handicaps above 28 was an 18-hole stableford. This was another thrilling contest which was won by Richard Thomas with 40, with Leighton Gwyther second on 39, and Matthew McMann third on 38.
The Juniors played an 18-hole stableford, again in two divisions, on Sunday, April 29. Luke Laidler won the 0-28 division with 38 points, with James Maxwell second on 35 and Simon Hilling third with 34. Leighton Gwyther won the division for the higher handicaps, scoring a magnificent 39 points. Matthew McMann was second with 35 and Ben Edwards third with 28.
The Juniors are reminded that their competition on Captain's Day (tomorrow, Saturday, May 5), is scheduled to tee-off at 9 am prompt.
