Tempus Vocal Group will perform Handel’s Dixit Dominus at St. Mary’s Church, Haverfordwest, on Saturday, April 23, at 7.30 pm. The work was written in Rome by Handel when he was only 22-years-old.

The group will be accompanied by the Abbey Baroque Consort and will be conducted by Seimon Morris, of Wiston. Of the five professional soloists, two are local talent, Jessica Cale and James Bartlett.

Jessica Cale, daughter of the Rev. Nicholas Cale and the Rev. Heather Cale, of the parish of Haverfordwest, was a chorister at St. Mary’s Church, Wiston, when her father was the vicar there.

Jessica sings all over the world with choirs such as The Sixteen, conducted by Harry Christophers, and The Monteverdi Choir, conducted by Sir John Eliot Gardiner. Indeed, just over a month ago, she sang the solo role of First Fairy in a Radio Three broadcast from the Barbican Centre with the Monteverdi Choir and the London Symphony Orchestra.

Jessica is now a member of the Choir of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, London.

James Bartlett, whose home is in Pembroke Dock, is in his third year at St. Catherine’s College, Cambridge, studying music. He was a choral scholar at St. Davids Cathedral whilst still at school, and has written anthems for the choir.

At Cambridge, and to great acclaim, he has worked as music director for performances of musicals such as Spring Awakening, Rent and Sweeney Todd. He is also the conductor of the very popular, highly sought-after Cambridge University Pops Orchestra.

In September 2016, James will take up a position in the music department at the renowned independent school in Wiltshire, Marlborough College.

Both Jessica and James are past pupils of Sir Thomas Picton School and of Seimon Morris and are past members Tempus. Indeed, Jessica was a member from its beginning in 2001, and James joined some years later.
