THE search is on for budding pop talent to take part in a charity event to be held at Pembroke Dock's Cleddau Bridge.

The fund-raising event in aid of the Martin Roberts Children's Fund at Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest, will be a Stars In Your Eyes style show, with all ages welcome to enter.

Event organiser Peter Kraus hopes the show, which will be held on Friday, May 5, will attract a lot of interest and at the same time raise a lot of money for a worthy cause.

"Martin Roberts was a gifted orthopaedic consultant at Withybush Hospital. Following his sudden and tragic death in 1999, it was the wish of his family that a charitable fund be founded in his memory," explained Peter.

In May 2003, the charity, supported by Pembrokeshire and Derwen NHS Trust, appointed its first 'Martin Roberts Children's Nurse' to focus on emotional needs and to provide support to vulnerable children and young people in Pembrokeshire.

"We need to raise a minimum of £20,000 per year to employ a specialist nurse to tackle such things as emotional vulnerability, which includes being bullied, problems at home, behavioural problems, abuse or neglect, illness, and many others," continued Peter.

"At the moment we are only able to emply the nurse for two days per week, so you can see there is a big area not covered.

"I have taken it upon myself to pledge £20,000 for this year and hopefully a lot more next year," he added.

Peter has also lined up another fund-raising event for June 24, with the annual 'medieval kidnapping' taking place at Pembroke Castle. Volunteers to ride horses and dress in medieval costume are asked to contact Peter on the numbers above
