Finishing touches are being put to the second De Valence Young Performers production, which takes place this weekend. Staged today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday), 'Take Two' sees two plays being performed on the same night. In the first half, the seven-11-year-old group perform a moralistic play entitled 'Beauty is a Beast', telling the story of a beautiful, but horrible princess who is taught a harsh lesson when her Fairy Godfather makes her ugly. After the interval, the 11-17-year-old group perform an entertaining and surreal version of the Lewis Carroll classic 'Alice', with elements from both Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass. Over 40 young performers, aged between seven and 17 have been working with youth theatre facilitator Mandy Barrowclift and musical director Miranda Davies since October, developing the scripts, devising dances and adding songs to enhance the plays. "It's been very exciting to watch the whole show evolve," explained De Valence director Claire Porter. "The children have suggested songs, choreographed their own dances and directed scenes with a helping hand from Mandy, Miranda and our group of adult volunteers. Everyone has been really enthusiastic and we've got a really unique and entertaining show lined up." The curtain goes up for 'Take Two' at 7.30 pm on both nights (doors open at 7 pm), with tickets available from the De Valence Box Office, Upper Frog Street, Tenby, from 9 am to 1 pm Monday to Friday (Telephone 01834 843568). Tickets are also available on the door on the night of each performance. Tickets are adults £6, children £4.
