To bloom or not to bloom? How quickly can a Magnolia fast track flowering to wow the crowds for February half-term? Comparing the February 2008 picture of a stunning Magnolia Camebellii x Robusta in full bloom at Picton Castle and a picture of the same tree this year, one has to wonder whether the little frosted buds will be ready to wow the crowds next week.

For the first time, Picton Castle, Gardens and Restaurant will open for February half-term (from Sunday, February 15, to Sunday, February 22). With two miles of walks in sheltered woodlands and early flowering Rhododendrons, helibores and snowdrops to admire, it's a great time to take a winter walk. Who knows - you might even see a Magnolia in flower!

After a bracing walk, or a castle tour, there's warming speciality coffes, homemade cake, soups and hot lunch dishes in the restaurant.

If you've got youngsters, Picton Castle's popular children's entertainers Karlos and friends will be about on Wednesday, February 18, with games and activities, magic shows, face painting and fun in the art galleries, out of the winter weather. A new nature trail, adventure playground and maze provide fun outside for lively young 'uns.

Normal admission charges apply. Some activities have a small additional charge. For more information, phone 01437 751326 or visit http://www.pictoncastle.co.uk">www.pictoncastle.co.uk.
