Wales Actors Company are the theatre company that bring outdoor Shakespeare so entertainingly to our castles in the summer and now offer a racy play by 17th century female playwright Afra Behn.
This play is a sparkling romantic comedy of love. The Rover is set in Naples during a fantastic masked Valentine's Day Festival. A group of exiled 'Brits' sample the carnival of delights. But when Will, 'the wild rover', sees a picture of Angelica Bianca, the most beautiful courtesan in the world, he has to meet her, but so do all the young men of Naples. The whole town descends into chaos.
Aphra Behn (1640-1689) was the first professional female writer in England; she wrote some of the most sparkling plays of the period, the most enduring of which is 'The Rover'.
Wales Actors productions crackle with raw energy and infectious enthusiasm, and the company was awarded four stars at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2002.
