Community and voluntary groups have always been known for their fundraising skills - from jumble sales to bingo sessions and more recently calendars and talent shows.

In these days of economic belt tightening, groups are working harder and harder to keep these activities going as well as keeping an eye on current funding news and legislation.

In response, PAVS (Pembrokeshire Association of Voluntary Services) is running a half-day workshop 'Community Fundraising' on Wednesday, February 9, at its Haverfordwest base, from 9.30 am -1 pm.

The course is particularly suited to those who are newer to community fundraising, but also for those who want to take a fresh look at their activities.

In the current economic climate, it is becoming more difficult to obtain grants and therefore more important for community groups to take a sustainable approach to fund-raising. The session will help groups develop their existing activities and make the most of new opportunities.

Information will also be available on the wide range of development and funding support that PAVS can offer to voluntary and community groups through Collaborative Communities, a regional project funded through the Convergence programme.

The workshop for voluntary and community groups costs £9 for PAVS members - contact them about the benefits of annual membership - or £12.50 for non members. Numbers are limited to ensure that participants have time to share ideas and experiences as well as participating in the course.

This course is for community or voluntary groups wanting to raise funds at a local level and aiming to make their organisation more sustainable.

On the previous day - Tuesday, February 8 - PAVS in collaboration with BBC Children in Need is offering free advice surgeries for groups who work with disadvantaged children. The Children in Need Wales funding officer will run 45-minute sessions at the PAVS office. There are just a few slots remaining and booking is essential.
