THE Giltar Hotel, Tenby, was the venue for a presentation of funds to Wales Air Ambulance this week. Lloyd Davies, of Tenby, took part in the town's annual Boxing Day Swim recently and raised £120 for the life-saving charity. "I decided to choose Wales Air Ambulance as I see them all the time and I can see how busy they are," he said. Many years ago, Lloyd used to take part in this popular traditional swim when he was growing up in Kilgetty. Moving away to Staffordshire, he became an auxiliary nurse and spent most of his time on the cardiac unit and five years ago when he returned to this area he married and now has three children, with another due in August. Lloyd enjoys his work with the Avenue Centre in Tenby as a support worker for learning disabilities and brings a smile to many a face with his successful trips and sporting events. He is also football coach for the under 8s team in Tenby. Hilary Harvey, accepting the cheque for Wales Air Ambulance, said: "With all that Lloyd does, he still found time to fund-raise for us and we are very grateful. The people of Pembrokeshire always seem to find a huge range of ways to raise funds for us. "We desperately need more income this year as we have to acquire the new EC 135 helicopters, which will be an even greater boost to our service. Help would be welcome with a busy week in March when we launch our new appeal," continued Hilary. "The motto 'Saving Time - Saving Lives' sums up what the helicopter and crews do for the community," she added. If you feel you have some spare time to assist the charity, please contact 01834 814567.
