Narberth 26 pts. Corus 7

Inspired by their win at Maesteg the previous week, the Otters withstood the early pressure, before getting on top to run in three tries in the second half and end up as comfortable winners.

Playing with the wind at their backs, Narberth took the lead after two minutes through a penalty by fly-half Aled Davies.

Spectators had to wait a while for the next score, which came from former Otters' favourite scrum-half Chris McDonald, who is now a player-coach with Corus.

From a scrum near the posts, McDonald played a one-two with outside-half Nathan Holsgrove and looped around to score a try converted by fullback Simon Evans.

Aled Davies reduced the lead with a penalty after six minutes and an injury time penalty kick by Davies from 37 metres, after Corus number eight Robbie Morgan was yellow-carded, put the Otters in front with the last kick of the first half.

In the second half, the Otters were dominant. The first try came when winger Jonathan Morgan pounced on a loose ball near the 40-metre line and with tremendous acceleration he eluded defenders to cross for an unconverted try.

After 67 minutes, replacement number eight Lloyd Phillips, who is now on dual registration with Llandovery, scored a trademark try from a scrum.

Last season, when playing for Narberth, Phillips would make these bursts from a scrum near the 22, but he now outpaced the Corus defenders with a powerful break from the 40-metre line, before crossing near the right corner for an unconverted try.

Corus fullback Simon Evans was yellow-carded after 84 minutes and, although Aled Davies missed out on that penalty chance, Narberth scored again following a flowing passing movement after a searing break by Lloyd Phillips.

The ball was passed out to Steve Martin, who needed no second bidding before crossing for a try, converted by Aled Davies to bring the points scoring for the afternoon to a close.

Match sponsors Dorian Phillips and Partners and DP Building Supplies, both of Llanboidy, nominated Narberth lock Jason Jennings as man-of-the-match.

Reflecting on proceedings after the match, Sean Gale, the Narberth forwards' coach, said: "We were very pleased with the 26-7 result as Corus beat us convincingly at Margam earlier in the season.

"In today's match squad we selected a lot of Pembrokeshire youngsters and their development has been a huge plus this season.

"As a club, we are getting more strength in depth. The seconds are going well and players who perform for the seconds are coming into the first team squad and grasping their opportunity.

"In the last 35 minutes our fitness told and we became the much better side in that period.

"We could have taken more chances in the match and there was some scrappy play which we need to improve, but on the whole it was a satisfactory win.

"Apart from man-of-the-match Jason Jennings, there were good performances by skipper and prop Justin Hughes, winger Jonathan Morgan looked sharp, flanker Gareth Bateman is working particularly hard and replacement number eight Lloyd Phillips, who is on dual registration with Llandovery, made an impact and a difference in the second half.

"After three successive defeats, the winning results in the last two games have put us back on track and our aim is to finish in third place in the Division One West table,"

Tomorrow (Saturday), Narberth have a local derby away to Carmarthen Athletic at Johnstown.

Narberth fielded: Nick Jones, Craig Barnett (Adrian Killa), Steve Martin, Richard Davies, Jonathan Morgan, Aled Davies, Andrew Davies, Tom Slater (Scott Payne), Dan Smith (Aled Harries), Justin Hughes, capt., Jason Jennings, Alex Jenkins (David Ebsworth), Gareth Bateman, Andrew Dennis and Jamie Bohata (Lloyd Phillips).
