Parents in Tenby have been asked to boil only the water needed in the kettle, not leave items on standby and turn unused lights off.

The encouragement came from pupils of Tenby Infants School, who recently won the silver Sustainable Schools award.

As part of the award, they took part in a Sustainability Challenge aiming to live more sustainably at home.

They also investigated issues surrounding water, transport and healthy living.

"The pupils have been learning about sustainability and the wider world, but it is important for them to also be able to take action locally," said Janie Pridham, Sustainable Schools officer.

"This helps them learn how to become real global citizens."

The school was presented with the award last week by Clr. Huw George, cabinet member for education and the Welsh language.

The Pembrokeshire Sustainable Schools Award scheme recognises efforts to improve quality of life and the environment now without damaging the planet for future generations.
