The National Trust is known as one of the largest conservation charities in Britain, caring for places of historic interest all over the UK.

Here in Pembrokeshire, they have very few of the large houses usually associated with the Trust, but they do have areas of outstanding natural beauty and miles of coastline and countryside that they help to maintain and preserve, totalling nearly 30 per cent of the Pembrokeshire coastline.

The National Trust at Stackpole is one of the partners that look after one of the most stunning parts of the Pembrokeshire coastline - Freshwater West.

This beautiful windswept beach attracts a huge number of visitors all year round, but it is also known as one of the most consistent surf destinations in Wales, providing ideal conditions for the sport.

The Welsh Surfing Championships have been held here, the latest in 2012 and the Pembrokeshire Surf Ryders held their recent Surf Ryder Cup at the beach earlier this month.

Freshwater West, therefore, is a natural location for the Stackpole team and the National Trust Surf Ambassadors to form a progressive partnership. The surf ambassador scheme was originally formed to support and promote the conservation work carried out in the surfers' playgrounds along the Devon and Cornwall coast and now the scheme will be involved in the Trust's work along the Pembrokeshire coast.

Tomorrow (Saturday) will see one of our National Trust surf ambassadors, Raife Gaskell, in association with the Stackpole team lead a litter pick on Freshwater West beach.

Rebecca Stock, Stackpole operations manager, said: "Raife is one of Britain's rising surf stars. It is a real privilege to be working with such an amazing surfer who is so down to earth and interested in our work."

Why not join Raife and the Stackpole team to make a real difference to your local area, between 11 am and 1 pm on the 27th.

For all those interested in the surf scene, there will also be the Pembrokeshire Surf Riders charity screening of a great British surf movie, 'The Endless Winter', at the Stackpole Outdoor Learning Centre tonight (Friday) at 7 pm.  Tickets are available from http://www.eventbrite.com">www.eventbrite.com /event/4472330862 or contact the centre on 01646 661425 for details.
