Surflink, which is based at South Beach in Tenby, is looking to expand its rowing section and boost membership numbers after one of its existing rowers qualified as a rowing coach.

Mike Ashbridge, who already rows at Surflink, has successfully completed his Level 2 Coaching Certificate, a nationally recognised qualification.

Jules Rilstone, chairman of Surflink, commented: "Sea rowing is one of the main activities that takes place at Surflink and I believe that Mike's coaching skills will enable us to increase the popularity of sea rowing amongst the local community.

"We're very grateful to the Sports Council for Wales Community Chest scheme for covering the cost of this coaching course through a grant."

Community Chest is a National Lottery funded grant aid scheme designed to encourage more people to become more physically active more often.

Since its inception in 1999, communities across the length and breadth of Wales have been able to invest heavily in sports and physical activity projects.

Speaking about Surflink's future plans for rowing, Mike Ashbridge said: 'This summer we will be running a number of 'Learn to Row' courses at South Beach. Sociable, fun and inspiring are the three words that will underpin the courses. You'll meet new friends, enjoy socialising with other rowers and probably surprise yourself with what you can achieve. And as everyone agrees, rowing is an addictive activity!"

Details of the 'Learn to Row' courses will be announced in mid-April and with an enthusiastic reaction to the plans, the demand is expected to be high.
