Neil Hamilton, AM for Mid and West Wales and leader of UKIP Wales, is calling on his constituents to take part in a national campaign to clean up Wales.

Mr Hamilton, party spokesman for the environment, is urging volunteers to participate in four days of action as part of the Great British Spring Clean for 2018.

Keep Wales Tidy is hoping to inspire the people of Wales to get outdoors, be active and proud of where they live.

Mr. Hamilton said: “I welcome this initiative. Litter is a terrible eyesore wherever it appears, but particularly on the coast and in the countryside. Wales can boast some of the most beautiful beaches and landscapes in the world and I hope everyone who can will lend their support and help to keep our heritage clean and tidy.

“Spring Clean Cymru is a great way of bringing communities together and encouraging people to take pride in their local area. I am delighted to see so many clean-ups planned across Mid and West Wales and I would urge anyone interested to get involved, either by taking part or organising an event. By encouraging children to participate, we can help to educate them in the importance of not desecrating their environment by thoughtless littering and graffiti.

“We can, and should, all play our part in keeping the beaches and countryside litter free, not only for tourists, but for our own communities.”

The Keep Wales Tidy Spring Clean Cymru 2018 is a nationwide campaign to encourage people across the country to get together and help clean up Wales.

Community groups, schools, businesses and charities will all be taking part in the four days of action from March 1-4. Many events are already planned across Wales, from beach cleaning in Cardigan Bay and along the Pembrokeshire coast, to clearing up litter on riverside footpaths and lay-bys in Rhayader, Powys.
