The Mermaid on the Strand Restaurant in Saundersfoot was filled last Tuesday, when 140 people supported a fish and chip supper there. Diners were rewarded with a delicious meal while they helped the Saundersfoot, Tenby and District committee of Macmillan Cancer Relief raise a splendid £642 which will be used to help cancer patients and their families. The supper is a popular annual event. The Mermaid's friendly young staff rose to the occassion and demonstrated great efficiency as they served the full house. Guests were entertained by the popular and impressive jazz duo, Brian Jobson on keyboard and Dick Williams on trumpet. Committee chairman, Cynthia Scourfield Lewis, thanked everyone for their support, especially Lindsey and Andrew Evans, owners of the Mermaid, whose invitation to hold the event, and generosity and hard work, made the occasion not only possible, but a resounding success.
