The final of the Texaco Pembrokeshire 2000 Women's Cup was played last Saturday at Tenby AFC ground, between Saundersfoot AFC and Haverfordwest County.

Saundersfoot were the comfortable winners, playing some good football against a weakened Haverfordwest side.

Gerry Rigby, this year's Women's League secretary, said: "Although the match was one-sided in the end, it was played with a great spirit by all the players, and was a good curtain raiser for the league games."

Gerry also thanked Tenby AFC for the generous use of their pitch, Malcolm Hawkins for donating the officials' awards, and the match officials who handled the game in a very professional manner.

Phil Thompson, public relations manager for Texaco, sponsors of the Women's League, presented the medals to the officials and the two teams, congratulating them both for setting such a good example in the way that they conducted themselves during the game.

He also stated that he was looking forward to the start of the league programme, and also to the forthcoming new Women's Development League, and also the indoor U12 and U14 girls' leagues.
