On Thursday, with perfect walking weather, six Nordic walkers headed north to Treffgarne Gorge.
Starting from the Old Mill, they headed up the steep lane in warm spring sunshine, past Maiden Castle and around the very scenic Great Treffgarne Mountain. Their reward for making the climb was a stunning panorama. They had spectacular views from Pembroke to St. David’s and around to Garn Fawr at Strumble Head.
The group continued on through fields of cows and sheep with ever so many lambs, who didn’t seem to mind their passing. They had a very pleasant picnic by the babbling Nant-y-coy Brook. It was an added bonus for it to be dry underfoot. The whole walk was utterly delightful.

On Saturday morning, under a clear blue sky and non-stop sunshine, 35 very cheerful walkers gathered at Battery Gardens. Barbara, supported by Chris and Brian, led the Speedies up to Allen’s View, via the Green, Merlin’s Court and North Cliff. Donna, backed by Pat, led the Steadies the same way until they reached the Croft. There they turned right towards the North Beach zigzag and North Walk. The Speedies meanwhile, paused at Allen’s View before descending back to the Heart Attack Steps and North Beach to reach the harbour.
Paul and Leighton led a five strong Steadies-2 group around the Jubilee and along the Esplanade to reach the seaward end of the town walls. Leighton took two walkers back to their cars, while Paul led the other three around the town walls. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their social morning out, made all the better by the glorious weather.
Tomorrow, Saturday, there will be a choice of walks from Penally to Tenby. Please catch the 349 bus at 10.15 am from Tenby bus station. For those travelling independently, please gather in Penally Station car park for a 10.30 am start.
