On a recent Thursday seven Nordic walkers headed for the Stackpole Estate. The weather was sunny at times, but with a strong south-easterly wind.

This week’s walk was full of wildlife delights. Starting from Bosherston car park, they took the clockwise route around the lily ponds. After crossing the grassy bridge they were lucky enough to spot two otters in the reeds less than six feet away. Then as they walked up to the ‘beehive’ for a coffee stop, a buzzard circled above them. As the group walked around the headland, rabbits scurried across their path.

Back on the beach they found a sheltered spot for their first picnic of the year, watched from the cliff above by a hungry looking heron. It was sunny and warmer, out of the wind, as they headed back to the start. Everyone was delighted with their morning out.

Last Saturday, 40 club members gathered in the back car park at Celtic Haven. The sky was a clear blue bowl, but the strong south-easterly wind continued unabated.

Chris, backed by Kym, led the larger Speedies group down the lane to Lydstep Head. Brian, supported by Pat and Leighton, followed behind with the Steadies group.

Both groups went around the headland in a clockwise direction to minimise their exposure to the keen wind. Six ponies, some looking very pregnant, stood amiably watching them as they passed by. Having circled the headland, the Speedies headed down the hill towards the beach. They returned via the woodland walk, before heading to Waves restaurant for refreshments. They arrived well behind the Steadies who took the direct route back up the lane. The chat was happy and animated, before everyone made their way home, after another very enjoyable morning out.
