A group of charity walkers kitted out in purple took on a fundraising trek over the weekend in aid of a young local mother who is battling against cancer.

Family and friends of 27-year-old Ruth White, of Tenby, who is suffering from recurrent cervical cancer, took on the walk to help fund a 'Stereotactic radiotherapy' procedure to aid her.

Setting off on a sunny Sunday, the walkers started off from the Salterns car park in Tenby, then onto Wiseman's Bridge, before heading to Kilgetty.

Those taking part in the walk were asked to wear purple, as it's Ruth's favourite colour, so specially produced 'A Chance For Ruth' T-shirts were made to aid the cause, which can also be purchased from a new website that has also been set up at http://www.achanceforruth.co.uk">www.achanceforruth.co.uk to let people know of further fundraising activities and how to donate.

The group will also soon be kick-starting the bidding on a Casualty t-shirt (people can also bid on A Chance For Ruth Facebook page) which has been kindly donated by Tenby actor Charles Dale and has been signed by 90 per cent of his fellow cast.

"We would just like to thank all the walkers, especially the kids, they were amazing, and thanks to all the people who came from as far away as Cardiff and Swansea, all the support was overwhelming," said Miffany White, Ruth's sister.

"Everyone had a great day and keep the sponsor money coming in, we all appreciate the effort made," she continued, adding a big thanks to Tenby Lions; Silcox Coaches; The White Horse Inn, Kilgetty; Emma Thomas Jones from Herbalife; and Lloyd Davies for planning a brilliant route.

The fundraisers' next event (for ladies only) is an Ann Summers Night at Paxtons Bistro on Wednesday at 7.30 pm.
