Freddy the Fox, of Heatherton, has been hot- footing it around local primary schools giving pupils gardening lessons.
Freddy and his friend, Gemma Watkins, have been visiting children all over Pembrokeshire, teaching them how to grow and look after sunflowers.
Since the maze became an attraction at Heatherton, Freddy has been visiting schools giving each school one of the maize plants to look after.
This year, the competition is slightly different, with the children growing sunflowers, because in the maze this year, visitors can expect to find those flowers there.
Gemma Watkins, marketing manager, said it was evident the children were looking forward to watching their seeds grow, with all the children fascinated by previous aerial pictures of past maze designs at Heatherton. Past designs included images of Tom Jones, Ryan Giggs, a monkey and a star. This year, the design is of a football player holding the World Cup.
The children have also been given some amazing maize facts about the maize that is grown at Heatherton (July - end of August) and found out what corn can be used for.
Freddy also asked the pupils to send in colourful pictures of their sunflowers.
There are prizes for the best picture and some lucky children will have their pictures displayed at the maize maze site in July.
As a special thank you for taking part, Freddy gave all schools a discount on a visit to Heatherton. Freddy will return to the schools before the summer holidays to measure the sunflowers. The winning class will receive vouchers for every child to have a go on one of the many sporting activities at Heatherton. Freddy wishes everybody good luck and hopes they all achieve 'Jack and the Beanstalk'- sized plants.
