Penally WI held their 70th Anniversary Garden Party on June 14, kindly hosted by June and David Glennister, at Orchard House, Penally. The weather was beautiful and so was the garden, with everything in bloom.

President Doreen opened the meeting and welcomed members on such a lovely day; extra sun hats were available. The ladies then went through the monthly newsletter. They are looking forward to their next meeting about ‘Dogs 4 Wildlife’ in the village hall on July 12. They are also having a trip out on July 28 with Taf Valley Coaches. The trip is now fully booked, so if anyone cannot go, please let Sian know.

There was welcome for special guests, Presidents of local WIs, who came to celebrate the anniversary: Christine Harris, of St. Florence; Barbara Poole and Pat, of New Hedges; Diane Rigden, of St. Issells; Sue Elliott-Merriman of Lawrenny and Martletwy; and Gwen Newbury of Saundersfoot. Apologies were given from PFWI Chairman Jenny Longland, who was unable to attend because of other engagements.

Afternoon tea was a roaring success. Penally WI thank everyone who contributed something for the event, including the Bakery in The Paddock, Penally who supplied the cake; it was delicious! The lovely cake topping was made by Ann Cliff, who couldn’t be there on the day, but is thanked for making it. The raffle was won by Val.
